Shamseldin Metwally, MD

Shams obtained his medicine degree from the Faculty of Medicine Alexandria University in Egypt in 2017. He joined the Sun Lab as a research fellow in January of 2022 and left the lab in August 2024 to move into a more clinical setting. While in our lab, Shams was involved in several projects and was notably known for his developing expertise with 3D rendering IMARIS software. The teams Shams was involved on include traumatic brain injury (TBI), the role of the cerebellum in recovery following stroke, the role of NHE1 in Alzheimer's disease, and various collaborations. Shams aims to be placed into a resident physician program. Some fun facts about Shams are that he speaks multiple languages, enjoys running marathons, and also repeatedly marathoning The Office.
