Welcome to the Sun Lab

The Sun Lab studies ion transporter proteins in ionic dysregulation in neurodegenerative diseases.

Loss of ionic homeostasis is common in pathogenesis of various neurological diseases, including ischemic stroke, traumatic brain injury, vascular dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease. We seek to discover the underlying mechanisms and roles of ion transporter protein dysregulation in astrogliosis, microglial activation, disruption of cellular and metabolic processes, and neuronal death. Equipped with interdisciplinary and state-of-the art approaches (human data analysis, rodent models, RNAseq, MRI, 3D tissue structure rendering, neurological functional assessment, etc.), the Sun lab integrates goals for novel research, student training, and therapeutic target discovery.
